This was my least favorite episode (which isn’t saying much, since I love and enjoy all the Cardcaptor Sakura episodes in one way or another). Basically, Sakura gets into a situation that most of us got into when we were in early elementary school — procrastinating the hell out of our summer homework and ending up using the very last days of the break cramming it all in.
;_; Sometimes we just bring it upon ourselves.
Of course, Sakura gets some help completing her homework. In Touya’s case, the price was five chores. What, you think he’d do it for free?
With all of that out of the way, the only homework left was the dreaded book report. Oh man, not only does re-watching this series bring back nostalgia for CCS itself, but it also brings back nostalgia from my childhood in general. If there was anything I procrastinated on, it was definitely book reports. While I loved reading, I didn’t like writing about it.
It’s really ironic, seeing as I eventually created an anime blog and have gained a deep interest in writing about what I read/watch over the years. Perhaps it was because I was forced to read things that didn’t interest me, but I digress. The simple book about piggies that both Syaoran and Sakura wanted to use for their book reports gets possessed by The Move, and eludes their grasps in various ways throughout the episode.
A certain character detail is revealed about Syaoran. That is, he can’t read Japanese all that well because kanji usage differs between Japanese and Chinese. As a person who is studying the Japanese language, I’d say Syaoran has it well, since learning kanji is at least simpler if you already know Traditional Chinese. And since he already speaks Japanese fluently, it shouldn’t be that hard to learn everything else.
SHIPPING SCENARIO: SYAORAN HELPS SAKURA WITH HER MATH HOMEWORK AND SAKURA HELPS SYAORAN WITH JAPANESE. 😀
In the end, Sakura manages to capture The Move using her magical senses…
…but not without getting wet first. With Syaoran.
And not only does she get wet with Syaoran, she ends up wearing his garments.
Garments that were a present from Me-… *banging sound*
What’s this about getting wet with Syaoran and wearing his clothes that *I* gave him?!
THE FUN BEGINS NOW, GUYS.
Poor Kero-chan. This episode marks the first visual retool of the segment that foreshadows its eventual cancellation in the second season.
Until it makes a gigantic comeback as a really amusing short coupled with the second film. But that’s for another time!
