Cardcaptor Sakura 【HD Rewatch】 21

Slow and steady

I swear, almost all of the school-related animations I’ve watched during my childhood always had at least one episode about running a marathon. And in those, someone always gets a leg injury leading to heartwarming help, etc.

Cardcaptor Sakura isn’t exempt from this. This was one of those episodes. 😛

CLAMP does the best slapstick chibi swirly eyes

Classic anime expressions. CCS knows how to press the right buttons.

This episode provides some more character establishment for Meilin. Her introductory episode already showed us a bit of these characteristics, but this episode further serves to showcase how devoted, stubborn, and rash she can be. She doesn’t like to fall behind and she’ll do anything to keep up with the other characters, especially when it comes to Syaoran. It’s not made extremely apparent until later on in the series, but she doesn’t want to be considered a burden to him.

oh uh

He looks miserable

Also, another character establishment in this episode is that Syaoran really does care about Meilin despite how bothered he is by her insisted presence, even though it’s not in a romantic way. It goes without saying that any of the early episodes that showcased Syaoran’s dere side are ones that I particularly enjoy watching.

Could use a little less abuse though.

hang in there man

ded

no bully

No bully pls

Sakura says no to Syaoran-bullying!

cool chinese characters man

Reaffirmation #1 The Rashinban is really cool

Reaffirmation #2…

RELEASE!

Cardcaptor Sakura has the best “stock” animations.

magical boy series when

Ever.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. There’s always so much attention-to-detail and quality in these “stock” animations. I really love Madhouse.

I’m tempted to one day compile every “stock” footage in the series that showcases Sakura and Syaoran in different outfits because they’re that nice to look at (I’ll upload it to YouTube or something).

Anyway, the Clow Card of the day is The Loop. Its powers are kind of in the realm of nightmares… at least to me. Here, its magic forces Sakura, Syaoran, and Meilin to run around in a circle without knowing it. Know imagine it running amok in those creepy hotel hallways. No end in sight. *shivers*

Who says these aren't chinesecartoons

Reaffirmation #3 CLAMP’s clothing designs are to die for.

Also, I take back the sclera comment from my last post. That’s just part of the style these “Leave it to Kero-chan” shots are going for, apparently. lol

  1. I have to admit, I didn’t really like Meilin much at first. She tended to grate on my nerves as to how clingy she was towards Syaoran. I think it was around the time of the Twin Card episode where she and Sakura spent the night together that she kinda grew on me. Although personally part of my resentment towards her was because I wanted to see Syaoran’s relationship with Sakura grow.

    1. @TsukuyomiMagi99: I can understand that. Back when I first watched CCS, Meilin didn’t grow on me until later, for much of the same reasons. At first, she comes off as a clingy & jealous “third wheel” girl and nothing more, a character mold which I usually dislike. In the end though, I really did end up liking her (Twin Card episode solidified that) and loved how SyaoSaku was handled in the anime from then on (though I’d be starving if it wasn’t for the original manga providing even more of its own cute rendition, Super Size Me).
